Bexar County crews on Sunday rounded up a pack of dogs roaming a neighborhood west of San Antonio after one of the canines attacked a deputy, according to media reports.

However, neighbors in area near Talley Road and Wiseman Boulevard told TV station KSAT that the pack had been a problem for at least a year before Bexar County Animal Control Services finally took action. The canines reportedly bit at least one other person prior to this weekend’s attack and made others feel unsafe.

Although neighbors told KSAT that the dogs have been an ongoing problem, it’s unclear whether they officially filed any complaints before now.

Sunday’s incident unfolded after a Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a pack of “20 loose dogs,” TV station KENS5 reports. Upon exiting his vehicle, one of the animals attacked the deputy, who suffered bites to his lower extremities.

The dogs also attacked two other people during the struggle, according to KSAT.

After calling for backup, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office contacted the dogs’ owners, issuing 17 citations and seizing nine of the canines.
