The death toll from this week’s flash flooding in Northwest San Antonio has risen to 11, according to officials with the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. Moreover, several people remain missing.

As of press time, only three of the deceased have been publicly identified. They are Martha De La Toree, 55; Victor Manuel Macias Castro, 28; and Mathew Angel Tufono, 51.

Search and rescue missions remain ongoing, San Antonio Fire Department officials said.

Located between Austin highways and U.S. Loop 410, Beitel Creek spilled over its banks early Thursday morning after a string of severe thunderstorms dropped between  as many as 8 inches of rain on Bexar County.

In a Friday tweet, Mayor Ron Nirenberg thanked first responders for their continued search and recovery efforts.

“Our hearts are with the families of those we’ve lost to this week’s flash floods and the families who continue searching for their loved ones,” Nirenberg wrote.

The floodwaters were so high that they swept away the Perrin-Beitel Bridge on Vicar Drive.

The San Antonio police department told KSAT that as many as 19 people were in the water at one point.
