
Do you have what it takes to work for Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones?
San Antonio’s newish mayor is seeking a personal assistant to help her handle communication with members of City Council, city staff, citizens and the media, according to a LinkedIn job posting that went live this week.
The listing doesn’t mention a salary. However, it emphasizes that the slot is an “unclassified position, meaning that whoever gets the job is an at-will employee and can be fired at any time, for any reason.”
That could be reason for concern among potential candidates — especially since Jones’ office has shuffled staff frequently since she took office in June.
Former communications director Gary Cooper was “reassigned” to another city office after less than a week on the job. Meanwhile, former chief of staff Jordan Abelson and event services director Rory Vance also left within the mayor’s first 100 days in office.
Three former campaign staffers for Jones, who asked to remain anonymous because they signed non-disclosure agreements, told the Current they weren’t surprised by the departures, citing an intense work environment under Jones’ leadership.
Anyone applying to become the mayor’s assistant must have a valid Class C Texas Drivers License, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university and five years of professional experience, the job listing states.
