Mayor Ron Nirenberg and his son Jonah visited the White House Sunday, where Jonah shook hands with Joe Biden during the president’s final days in office.

Nirenberg shared a photo of the encounter — which took place during the Democratic National Committee’s holiday reception — via Instagram.

“Jonah got to meet President Joe Biden and tell him he’s done a great job,” Nirenberg said in the photo caption, adding the hashtag #thankyoujoe.

Nirenberg has strong ties to the Biden administration, having continued to support the president even after the rocky debate performance that ultimately led him not to seek a second term. Indeed, rumors swirled that the mayor might even be considered for a cabinet position.

With those rumors quashed by an impending Trump presidency, San Antonio might be wondering what’s next for Nirenberg, who’s unable to run again due to term limits.

So far, the mayor hasn’t publicly shared his next moves.
