District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez is the latest San Antonio City Council member to receive only a minor penalty after facing allegations of drunk driving.
On Tuesday, prosecutors dropped their driving while intoxicated charge against Meza Gonzalez in exchange for her pleading no contest to obstruction of a highway, a Class B misdemeanor, the Express-News reports.
Bexar County Court 4’s Judge Alfredo Ximenez ordered Meza Gonzalez to pay a $1,000 fine and serve nine months’ probation. If Meza Gonzalez meets those terms, the charge will be dismissed, according to the daily.
Police arrested Meza Gonzalez after pulling her over on I-10 on July 24, weeks after being sworn in as District 8’s newest council representative. An officer spotted swerving between lanes, according to arrest documents. Records show that Meza Gonzalez had a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.15 — nearly twice the legal limit — at the time of her arrest.
It’s the second time that Meza Gonzalez has been arrested on suspicion of DWI.
She also faced a DWI charge in 2010, but that one was expunged from her record after a jury acquitted her.
Meza Gonzalez is the third sitting council member to have a DWI on their record, the others being District 1 Councilwoman Sukh Kaur and District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte. She’s also the third member of council to be charged with a DWI in three years.
