As Texas readies itself for extreme winter conditions this weekend, both Bexar County and the City of San Antonio have opened short-term emergency centers for people who need help staying warm.
The county and city shelters will open this Saturday and remain in operation until noon Monday, Jan. 26. The facilities are accessible to people with disabilities and service dogs are welcome. However, those who stay are encouraged to bring along essentials such as medication, clothing and personal supplies.
The Bexar County warming centers are:
- South Side Baptist Church, 2010 South Loop 1604 East
- Emergency Service District #7 Annex, 11591 Galm Road
- St. Padre Pio Catholic Church, 3843 Bulverde Parkway
- Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Road
- The Rock United Methodist Church, 1784 E. Loop 1604 in St. Hedwig
The City of San Antonio locations are:
- District 2 Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Road
- District 3 Southside Lions Senior Cente, 3303 Pecan Valley Drive

The city’s Community Connections Hotline, available at (210) 207-1799 is operating 24 hours, beginning at 8 a.m. this Saturday to support unhoused individuals. Residents may call the hotline for themselves or if they see someone in need. The hotline offers up-to-date information on available shelters, and will connect unsheltered neighbors with resources, including transportation and cold-weather supplies.
Partners including Haven for Hope, Salvation Army, Communities Under the Bridge, Corazon San Antonio and New Direction Church will also provide temporary overnight shelter space. Pets are welcome at all shelter locations.
