San Antonio, you nasty.
Or at least that’s what the eggheads think.
A new study has named San Antonio one of 10 dirties cities, a list Texas cities dominated overall.
The report, released by trench-drain company SwiftDrain, analyzed American cities based on criteria such as air quality, water safety and waste management data.
San Antonio ranked as the eighth-dirtiest U.S. city, with a score of 46.95. However, other cities in Texas fared worse. Houston came in at No. 1, followed by El Paso, Austin and Dallas in that order, dominating the four top slots. Fort Worth rounded out the list at No. 10, meaning Texas cities represented more than half of the total national list.
So much for “Don’t Mess With Texas.”
San Antonio was called out for its water safety in particular, which won’t come as a surprise to locals who already filter their water as a matter of course.
“Like other Texas cities, it shares the highest tap water contamination level and toxic exposure score,” the study’s authors wrote of the Alamo City. “While some housing indicators perform better than Houston or Dallas, pollution-related metrics continue to weigh heavily.”
But given that San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the nation, maybe its ranking as the eighth dirtiest is cause for celebration?
Or maybe we’re just trying to polish a turd here.
