San Antonio’s “most expensive property” has been dethroned after a recent price cut.
The sprawling Hill Country Village mansion first hit the market last fall with an $8.5 million price tag, making it San Antonio’s most expensive residential property when the Current wrote about it in September.
Now, after being re-listed at just under $8 million, the former belle of the ball has been upstaged by this Dominion-area beauty, clocking in at $8.25 million.
Still, the elegant Hill Country Village estate can hardly be found in the bargain bin. And it remains loaded with crazy amenities.
Designed by Don B. McDonald, the renowned architect behind short-lived Pearl restaurant Carriqui, the property features high ceilings, exposed wood beams and dramatic archways, but that’s just the beginning.
The six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bath residence also boasts a library, a sunroom, a garden room and a scullery. For those not fluent in French-derived 19th century kitchen terminology, that’s a back kitchen designated for storage and messy tasks such as washing dishes and food prep.
The inclusion of a scullery leaves the main kitchen pristine for entertaining. A wood-fired pizza oven produces the perfectly charred and bubbled pie, best enjoyed while looking out over the courtyard.
Entertaining can even be accommodated in the property’s massive five-car garage. Inspired by a German barn design, the garage’s first level includes a half bath and extensive storage, while the upper level features a recreation suite with an office, full bathroom and an expansive event space.
The mansion even has a darkroom for the budding photographer.
Outdoors on the 10-acre estate, the amenities continue with a full-size tennis court, manicured gardens, fountains, mature landscaping and a high-end Keith Zars pool.
Right off of the pool, an independent guest house provides its own complete living quarters with two bedrooms, a bunk room, a full kitchen, a living room, and its own two-car garage.
Though it’s no longer the most expensive estate in San Antonio, it’s still one of the swankiest.
