U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Dallas, on Wednesday called for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after a wave of violent escalations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an agency under her purview.
Crocket, who’s in the midst of a high-profile Senate run, has called for the action in social media posts across all platforms. The congresswoman said she’s joined with fellow Democrat U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly and dozens of other lawmakers in presenting articles of impeachment against Noem.
“Kristi Noem has been a complete and total failure at her job,” Crockett said in the joint post. “She has violated her oath and has allowed ICE agents to terrorize our communities.”
“That’s why I’m joining @reprobinkelly in calling for her impeachment, Crockett added. “We deserve better, she’s gotta go.”
Kelly formally introduced articles of impeachment against Noem on Wednesday. So far, 70 Members of Congress have cosponsored Rep. Kelly’s impeachment resolution as tensions escalate between ICE and members of the Minneapolis community, where an agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good last week. Minnesota U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, a progressive Democrat who resides in Minneapolis, also signed the document.
“Secretary Noem has brought her reign of terror to Chicago, LA, Minneapolis, and communities from north to south, east to west,” Rep. Kelly said at a press conference announcing the articles of impeachment. “She needs to be impeached for her actions.”
Charges listed in the articles of impeachment include “obstruction of Congress,” “violation of public trust” and “self-dealing.” The “obstruction of Congress” charge refers to efforts by Kelly and others to enter ICE facilities in Texas, Colorado, California, New York, Virginia and Washington, where they have been turned away by agency officials.
Regarding the charge of “violation of public trust,” Kelly claimed in a press release that Noem has “repeatedly violated the Immigration and Nationality Act, the First and Fourth Amendments of the United States Constitution. She’s also broken due process by directing ICE to conduct warrantless arrests and use violence against US citizens and lawful individuals.”
Kelly also alleged Noem handed out insider deals as ICE ramped up its deportation efforts.
“Secretary Noem has misused her position for personal gain while inappropriately using $200 million taxpayer dollars to fund an ad campaign for ICE recruitment,” Kelly’s press release continued. “She bypassed the normal competitive bidding process to award a contract to a firm called Strategy Group. Strategy Group was formed just days before the award and is run by the husband of senior DHS official Tricia McClaughlin, a close friend of Secretary Noem.”
In a public statement, Noem has rejected the accusations.
“Secretary Noem has called my impeachment effort ‘silly’,” Kelly said. “I want to tell her right now: You have violated your oath of office and there will be consequences. I am watching you. The American people are watching you. And most of all, we are not liking what we are seeing. If you believe impeachment is ‘silly,’ then you are not taking your job or our Constitution seriously.”
Noem has come under fire for her handling of Good’s shooting death at the hands of ICE officer Jonathan Ross. Rather than waiting to investigate the circumstances of the homicide, Noem rushed to Ross’ defense, labeling Good a “domestic terrorist.”
In a press briefing, Noem also revealed that the as-yet unnamed officer had experienced a previous incident in 2025 in which he’d been dragged by a vehicle. This detail enabled journalists to identify the agent as Jonathan Ross, who’s now in hiding as a divided nation heaps both ire and praise upon him.
During a press exchange, Noem posed behind a podium bearing the words “one of ours, all of yours,” a phrase popular among neo-nazis and others in the far-right corners of the internet.
Though the phrase is not a direct quote from Nazi Germany, according to historian James Fell, it’s often misattributed as such. Even Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello called out Noem for using what he called a “Nazi mass murder slogan” in an Instagram post.
The phrase is widely believed to be a reference to the Nazi policy of reprisal, particularly referring to its extermination of the Czech village of Lidice. Following the assassination of a prominent Nazi, 200 boys and men were executed, 200 women were sent to concentration camps, where many perished, and eighty-two children were sent to the gas chamber.
