Democratic state Rep. James Talarico on Tuesday will announce his bid for a Texas U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, as first reported by Politico

Speculation that Talarico was considering a run for a statewide or federal office reached a fever pitch this summer following his well-received interview with right-wing Podcaster Joe Rogan, who was so impressed with the Pflugerville politician that he encouraged him to run for president.

Talarico also drew attention during the Texas Legislature’s contentious summer session as he skewered Republicans for trying to force through what he painted as an unpopular and undemocratic agenda.

The up-and-comer will face former NFL star and U.S. Rep. Colin Allred in the Democratic primary.

Allred has faced criticism for a lack of media appearances and negligible public outreach. Indeed, some Democrats didn’t even want him to run again after his embarrassing defeat to incumbent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz during the 2024 election.

Politico didn’t elaborate on whether Talrico’s campaign launch would be a public event or reveal what time the official announcement will be made. But if Talarico has taught us one thing during his tenure at the Texas State Capitol, it’s that he’s sure to grab headlines.
