Texas State University found itself on the receiving end of a social media skewering this week after the school bragged in a tweet that its football team had a cumulative GPA of 2.84 — the highest fall GPA in team history.

“Winning in the classroom and off the field!” Texas State Football’s official X account wrote in the Jan. 6 post.

For reference, that’s about a “C” average.

Needless to say, it wasn’t long before X users piled on the Bobcats, who went 8-5 this year and didn’t even win the SBC West.

“Should have just left this one in the drafts,” user @keenanjamesr commented.

Other social media users expressed shock that it was the highest team GPA in the school’s history.

“Weird flex, but C’s get degrees, I guess,” chimed in X user @Kami.

Indeed, the feedback was so overwhelmingly negative that the school turned off comments on the post, which has garnered nearly 1,000 shares and 4,000 likes as of press time.

It’s become common for football programs to share their team’s cumulative GPA on social media as a way to prove their athletes are held to the same academic standard as the rest of the student body.

The University of Texas Longhorns, scheduled for a matchup against Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on Friday, had a cumulative fall GPA of 3.27, for example.

Even so, no one’s ever accused Texas State of being on quite the same academic footing as UT. Maybe the Bobcats really thought they’d accomplished something.
