New Braunfels locals and people who float the Guadalupe River know it as the “Red House on the River,” a three-story, tomato-red residence perched on the water’s edge.

Now, the 5,500-square-foot tuber’s landmark — used as a vacation home for a Midland oil and gas executive — is on the market for just shy of $2.9 million.

A mile from historic Gruene Hall, the early 2000s-era property includes six bedrooms and six and half baths along with access to the river below. With its many archways, sumptuous colors and dark wood, the interior has a modern Mexican feel — something not necessarily conveyed by its exterior.

“Every window in the house really does have a view,” said April Hewlett, the property’s listing agent. “Unbelievable.”

As a bonus, Hewlett noted that the area adjacent to the home is unlikely to see additional development since one of the two side lots is owned by the city of New Braunfels and used for drainage.

This home is listed by April Hewlett with All City Real Estate, Ltd. Co.
