San Antonio moviegoers attending Thursday’s premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning at AMC Rivercenter 11 got quite a surprise when Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise made an appearance.

A clip of Cruise’s stop at the downtown cineplex was captured and shared on social media by Alamo City film-buff Instagram account @alamocitymovietalk. The 62-year-old star is the top-billed actor in the eight-movie Mission: Impossible franchise.

During his remarks, Cruise thanked the folks of Military City USA for their service, the Instagram clip shows.

“I just want to thank you for what you do for your country, and it is a real honor for us to be here,” he said.

Director Christopher McQuarrie, who helmed the latest Mission: Impossible installment, also was in attendance.

During his San Antonio visit, Cruise also dropped by Joint Base San Antonio, where he met with active duty, guard and reserve service members, as well as Wounded Warriors and Gold Star families, MySA reports.

The movie star’s Alamo City stop was part of a statewide tour to promote the film, in which he plays special agent Ethan Hunt in his quest to confront a rogue entity threatening the world by attempting to launch nuclear missiles. He’s reportedly heading to Dallas next to promote the film.
