“I call for a moment, a year, a lifetime of peace,” bellowed Democrat John Courage, who is running against U.S. Representative Lamar Smith in the 21st District.
“For me to vote to go to war would be a last resort with no alternative,” added District 28 U.S. Representative Ciro Rodriguez, a Democrat. He voted against Bush’s measure that would give the president sole power to declare war.

Demonstrators also held a moment of silence for the late Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone, one of Congress’ most liberal voices who also voted against the war before dying in a plane crash last week.
