Ugh. It's not Uber or Lyft, but it'll have to do.
With Uber gone Fiesta San Antonio Commission, Silver Eagle Distributors, the Valero Energy Foundation and Yellow Cab are partnering up to provide a safe ride-sharing alternative. As of now they do have have 2,000 $20 pre-paid taxi cards available at the Yellow Cab offices and at certain Fiesta events.
Everyone could say that we are still a little bitter that Uber and Lyft are no longer with us, because they made it easy last year to get a driver to take you from point A to point B via their simple app, but this year. like the previous years you will have to plan ahead. On the bright side, it's amazing that there has been no Fiesta fatalities pertaining to drunk driving in the past four years, and hopefully there will be none this year.
The pre-paid Yellow Cab cards are a cool concept, but most likely people will not know about the program. First of all you have to request the cards at the office at 9600 IH 35 North. So, yes, you have to go down there but it beats spending $20,000 for the costs associated with a DWI, or risking your life and the life of others.
Another alternative that helps outer-loopers pour into to the city is VIA. The problem with VIA though is that there express fair is $2.50. That is double the price when compared to the regular bus fare. Also most people would have to find a way home from the park and rides, which is an issue if you are slightly buzzed. There comes a point where people in power, whoever they are, need to take a step back, and ask the questions as to how can we make transportation options more affordable and accessible so that the entire city can enjoy our flamboyant festivities that showcase our unique culture.
