Architect Arthur J. Herrmann's best known San Antonio creation is the Hotel Havana, the stylish downtown boutique hotel that started life in 1914 as a Mediterranean Revival-style apartment building.

But this 1907 home Herrmann designed for businessman C.W. Buhler in Monte Vista probably deserves to be just as well known. The beautiful Art Deco design and meticulous woodwork inside this property make it a stunner.

The gracefully curving stairway, the inlaid floors and stained glass have all been painstakingly maintained over the years. But the real showstopper is a dining room with original fresco-painted walls and intricate woodwork meant to resemble intertwining tree branches.

The exterior of the five-bedroom, three-bath house is just as impressive, featuring an amazing rounded entryway and a wraparound porch, replete with giant planters set into its surrounding railing.

The only thing that's missing is a central air and heat, but when so much of the original interior has been kept intact, it's almost understandable why no owner wanted to ruin its 1900-era authenticity.

This home is listed by Barbara Faulkner with Keller Williams Heritage.
