Respected San Antonio architect Don B. McDonald is known for creating timeless-looking work and restoring venerable Texas homes.

Makes sense that he'd be able to design a contemporary home in the 1920s-era enclave of Olmos Park that fits in with the "golden age" homes surrounding it. Built in 2010, this Spanish Colonial-style residence was recently listed for $2.5 million — and it's nearly indistinguishable from many similar high-end homes built during the early 20th century.

"Everybody who walks in thinks the house is 80, 90 years old," broker Judy J. Barnes said. "Don McDonald just does everything to perfection, so it looks like the house has been there that long."

Beyond its stucco exterior, tile roof and sweeping archways, the five-bedroom, four-and-half-bath home features many architectural details that also look back to an earlier era of Alamo City homebuilding. Among those are dramatic wood beams over the living and dining areas, giant windows overlooking the backyard and a kitchen that combines both rustic elements and early 20th century elegance.
