San Antonio vegan restaurants, juice bars and other healthy options that are actually good

It's nearly the time of year where San Antonians make resolutions and see how long they can stick with them.

Many of the most popular new year's resolutions center around eating healthier, but it sure helps to stick with that plan when you have access to food that's not just good for you but delicious too. We rustled up 30 local spots that manage to check both boxes.

Vegan Avenue

This new-ish vegan joint focuses exclusively on plant-based and gluten-free food in SA’s Monte Vista neighborhood. The menu is extensive, with items for lunch, brunch and dinner, as well as milkshakes and smoothies.

Roots Salad Kitchen

Positioned a mile from San Antonio’s central business district, this new-ish health-focused joint offers a range of açaí bowls, build-your-own wraps and loaded salads, including a Tex-Mex variety and one topped with Jamaican jerk chicken.

Project Pollo

This fast-growing SA-based vegan chain offers vegan versions of basic chicken dishes, including tenders, buffalo-chicken macaroni and cheese and an array of breaded sandwiches. There’s also a bunch of vegan side items to cater to those averse to meat substitutes.

Washington, D.C.-based Cava’s fast-casual model allows hungry customers to fill bowls to the brim with their choice of spreads, proteins, dressings and toppings in SA’s Lincoln Heights neighborhood.
