This historic Alamo Heights home, once owned by Trinity U.'s athletic director and a revered artist, is now for sale

This gorgeous 1939 Alamo Heights property that recently hit the market has quite an ownership pedigree.

It was originally built by the father of Harry B. Orem, the Alamo Heights ISD superintendent for whom the district's stadium was named. Later, celebrated wood sculptor Jamie Maverick, the niece of one-time San Antonio mayor Maury Maverick Sr., called it home.

More recently, the two-story house was owned by Bob King, Trinity University's longtime athletic director, before it was purchased by the current owner, San Antonio physician Walter Bain.

It's easy to see what all of them saw in the three-bedroom, three-bath property. The high ceilings and plentiful windows give it a light and open feel, and it has plenty of eye-catching features, including a library with custom-built cabinets and an enclosed sunroom with a wet bar.

The $980,000 home also got a 1999 makeover from renowned local architect Joe Stubblefield.

This home is listed by Kathryn Bonner with Phyllis Browning Co.
