Redfern suggests the real 'Men in Black' are alien enforcers

This past weekend I had the distinct pleasure of spending time with my close friend and best-selling author Nick Redfern. A resident of Arlington, Nick is well known as the creator of some 20 books, with topics ranging from UFOs and conspiracies to monsters and other high weirdness. The British-born Redfern is a unique individual, typically dressed in punk garb that reflects his love for the Ramones. He is also an eloquent communicator, a thorough investigator, and a genuinely nice person.

Nick had been invited down to speak for the local MUFON (Mutual UFO Network, Inc.) group, a branch of the worldwide organization that takes a scientific look at the phenomenon of UFOs. The San Antonio chapter is headed by John Schwab and meets the last Tuesday of every month in the Denny’s restaurant at I-10 and Wurzbach. A packed house (some driving from as far away as Houston) was treated to a presentation about Nick’s new book – The Real Men in Black. Not to be confused with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones battling intergalactic creatures, these mysterious ‘visitors’ have usually been linked to UFOs and apparently have a long and disturbing history.

According to Redfern, the ‘MIBs’ are, “Shadowy, sinister, thin, and pale,” and have been accused of using intimidation tactics on those they target, typically UFO researchers and eyewitnesses. MIBs will usually claim they are with a government agency and their name is derived from the fact that they are always adorned in vintage black suits, fedoras and dark sunglasses. Their origin can apparently be traced back to the early 1950s, when the flying saucer craze was getting its start and documents obtained by Nick under the Freedom of Information Act prove that the MIB mystery was a concern to FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, no less. What’s even more bizarre is that these beings are said to sometimes walk through walls and vanish into thin air, leading Redfern to speculate that their origin in not at all earthly. For all seekers of the strange The Real Men in Black is definitely a must read.
