On December 3, a woman in San Marcos allegedly woke up to find an intruder staring at her as she slept — for the third time.

According to the San Marcos Police Department, the woman woke up at around 5:30 a.m. to find 24-year-old Chaitanya Cherukuri crouching at the foot of her bed, watching her while she slept. When she saw Cherukuri, she pointed a taser at him and yelled at her roommate to call the police. She held him at taser-point until police arrived to arrest him. He was charged with burglary of habitation (breaking into a home with intent to commit a felony, theft, or assault), stalking, and voyeurism.

This is the third time the woman has woken up to Cherukuri watching her, according to police. Police found a key on his key ring matching the victim’s apartment, although it is unclear how he obtained it.

Cherukuri's charges for breaking into homes stem back to March 2016, when he was first charged with burglary of habitation, plus tampering with physical evidence in San Marcos.

He was also charged with burglary of habitation in October, and burglary of habitation and stalking in November, according to his arrest warrant. It is unclear if these charges involve the woman who reported him to police.

Cherukuri was released from Hays County Jail on December 6, after posting a $140,000 bond.
