A 1910 home south of King William has hit the market for just under $1 million. Hard to believe from its regal-look dual porches and shining long leaf-pine floors that just a few years ago, it had been carved into eight apartments and left to rot, according to its seller.
Real estate broker Nathan Young and his husband purchased the 3,100-square-foot home seven years ago and spent almost that entire time refurbishing it. The couple purchased the property, which had sat vacant for years, thinking it might be their last option for snapping up an affordable — if dilapidated — property in Southtown.
During their extensive renovations, the couple rebuilt the property’s distinctive upper and lower porches and knocked out walls to return it to life as a four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath single-family home. They also added copper gutters, a custom-welded fence and gas lanterns specially built in New Orleans.
“It’s a little bittersweet to see it listed,” Young said of the decision to put the home up for sale. “But I guess it’s time for the next one.”
