The Dallas Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1996, and with a 6-8 record, it doesn’t look like Jerry Jones, owner of “America’s Team” will be in the running for another ring this year.

However, he’s picked up a different kind of award: being named Texas Monthly‘s Bum Steer of the Year. It’s the businessman’s second time to win the … ahem … recognition. He shared it in 2010 with the Texas Longhorns.

Texas Monthly gives out the annual award, described as the “highest dishonor” in the Lone Star State, to politicians, businesspeople and other public figures. The past three winners include imminently unlikeable Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in 2024, the City of Austin in 2023 and Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022.

The “National Magazine of Texas” gave a host of reasons why Jones deserved Texas’ most undesirable distinction, including his unwillingness to be active in free agency, his influence on coaching decisions and the fact that “Dem Boyz” haven’t made it past the divisional round of the NFL playoffs in 28 years.

Texas Monthly also cited the Cowboys’ embarrassing playoff collapse against the Green Bay Packers in January, an October spat with Dallas radio hosts in which Jones suggested he could have the on-air personalities fired and Jones’ decision last month to blame the sun’s glare at AT&T Stadium for the team’s poor play.

A Bum Steer indeed.
