A clip showing the moment that armed militia members from the far-right This Is Texas Freedom Force (TITFF) confronted anti-ICE protesters near the Alamo on Wednesday has gone viral on social media.
During the nearly 2-minute-long clip, independent journalist @zerosum24, who originally shot and narrated the video, said that a man bearing a “Donald Trump banner” was confronted by anti-ICE protesters, prompting a kerfuffle.
“I really suspect that unless this crowd manages to control themselves, that this could be what tips the scales,” @zerosum24 says.
Seconds later, a man sporting a bulletproof vest armed with what appears to be a military-style firearm rushes the crowd and intervenes in the dispute.
The clip, which was reposted by right-wing influencer Tayler Hansen, has ganered nearly 3,500 lives and more than 300,000 views as of press time.
When asked TK, an armed man that looks straight out of Duck Dynasty informs @zerosum24 that the armed group of vigilantes standing near the Alamo were there on behalf of the This Is Texas Freedom Force, a group that the FBI and Southern Poverty Law Center describe as a right-wing militia.
TITFF issued a call to arms on Wednesday, calling on its members to station themselves at the Alamo in response to anticipated anti-ICE protests.
“We are suggesting those that come [be] in full battle rattle [and] ready to defend yourself, the Alamo and your fellow Texas Patriots,” the group said in a Wednesday post on social media platform X.
Despite the tough talk and intimidating appearance of its members, however, New York Times journalist Edgar Sandoval noted in an X post that at least some TITFF military members appeared to be armed with nothing more than paintball guns.
Indeed, only a handful of TITFF members actually showed up.
Wednesday’s anti-ICE protest, which drew as many as 1,000 people, remained overwhelmingly peaceful, with only two reported arrests and no clear signs of vandalism.
Another rally is planned for 5 p.m. Saturday at Travis Park. That protest is part of the “No Kings Day” rallies being organized nationwide by the grassroots 50501 Movement.
