The Kendall County District Attorney’s Office is expanding its probe into the father and son who one Boerne’s Hovey Motorcars, whom authorities accuse of bilking customers out of $300,000.
Richard Dean Hovey Sr., 81, and his son, Richard Dean Hovey Jr.,58, are facing charges of theft over $300,000 and misapplication of financial property between $30,000-$150,000. The theft charge is a first-degree felony, while the misapplication accusation is a third-degree felony.
Authorities in Kendall County launched their investigation after a San Antonio man accused the Hoveys of selling his car to a fraudulent buyer and refusing to pay him back for the mistake, according to a KENS 5 report.
The total number of people who allege they were defrauded by the duo has now risen to 14, with one victim claiming to have been swindled out of more than $180,000 by the Hoveys, according to an indictment obtained by the Current.
However, officials with the Kendall County District Attorney’s Office say they believe there may be more victims and asked people with complaints about the dealers to come forward.
“We are actively working to identify additional victims in this case,” the DA’s Office said in a statement. “We urge anyone who has interacted with these businesses — whether as a former employee, vendor, or customer — to come forward with any relevant information.”
Officials said those with potential matters of concern should call the DA’s Office at (830) 249-9343.
