Another University of Texas at San Antonio student dies by suicide, officials say

Another University of Texas at San Antonio student had died, likely by suicide, school officials confirmed Wednesday.

It’s the second UTSA student believed to have taken their own life since May.

In a post on social media platform X, UTSA warned students to avoid the area near the main campus’ Bauerle Road Garage due to heavy police presence.

At 11 a.m., in a follow-up post, school officials said that they were “deeply saddened” to report that a student had died near the parking garage Wednesday morning.

“With a heavy heart, I’m writing to share that we’ve lost a member of our doctoral student community, likely by suicide,” UTSA President Taylor Eighmy said in a Wednesday afternoon statement. “I know an unexpected loss like this can feel overwhelming and may impact you differently; however, please know that you are not alone, and support is available.”

UTSA students can utilize counseling services offered by the school through Wellness 360 and TimelyCare or call its 24/7 crisis hotline at (210) 458-4140. Roadrunners can also seek help via the iConnectYou app or Employee Assistance Program.
