San Antonio-based BIRD Bakery is looking to turn lemons into lemonade by donating all proceeds from sales of its strawberry-lemonade cupcakes to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Although a San Antonio native, BIRD Bakery founder and CEO Elizabeth Chambers has lived in Los Angeles most of her adult life. She was evacuated last week from her home due to the ongoing Southern California wildfires.

“My children and I have been evacuated for the past 7 days, and we’re still praying for the safety of our house, but we’re the lucky ones,” Chambers wrote in a Tuesday Instagram post. “This has truly been the most devastating [and] unthinkable [tragedy] for so many, and this is our chance to help.”

BIRD Bakery is running its Cupcake for a Cause donation event through at least Feb. 1 at all three of its locations, including its original San Antonio outpost at 5912 Broadway.

Chambers said in her social media post that she chose to donate the proceeds of sales from the bakery’s strawberry-lemonade cupcakes in part because the vast majority of strawberries sold in the U.S. are grown in California.

BIRD Bakery is the second San Antonio area bakery to donate proceeds to victims of the Southern California fires.

The natural disaster has killed at least 25 people and burned through 40,000 acres since igniting last week, according to figures published by NBC News on Wednesday.
