In a shocking turn of events, the San Antonio Spurs on Monday landed the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The team, which had both its own pick and Atlanta’s first-round selection as a result of the 2022 Dejounte Murray trade, only had a 6.7% chance of landing the No. 1 pick and just a 29.7% chance of landing a pick in the top four, according to oddsmakers.

Statistically, the picks should have landed at the team at No. 8 and No. 14 — and Atlanta’s pick landed in precisely that second slot.

The No. 2 pick means either the Spurs or the Dallas Mavericks, which have the draft’s top pick, are likely to end up with Duke University standout small forward Cooper Flagg.

If Flagg is drafted first, the Spurs may go with Ace Bailey, a versatile guard and forward who currently plays for Rutgers University.

Spurs fans will know the future of their franchise following the 2025 NBA Draft, which will take place June 25.
