San Antonio has the third-highest number of UFO sightings of any Texas city, according to a recent study.

The study, compiled by Bramlett Real Estate based in Austin, compiled the number of reported sightings at each Texas metro for its rankings. Researchers parsed through 6,000 Texas sightings reported to the National UFO Reporting Center since 1995.

Houston ranks first on the list with 472 reported sightings, followed by Austin with 378. San Antonio had 312 sightings during that time, according to the center.

On a county level, Harris came up on top, reflecting a total of 541 sightings across the greater Houston-Katy area.

Not surprisingly, densely populated urban areas such as Travis and Bexar counties reported far more sightings than rural ones including Jeff Davis and Pecos counties, the study reports.

There was a notable exception, however. West Texas seems to be a hot spot due to its minimal light pollution and clear view of the cosmos in its ultra-dark skies, the study reports. People living in towns on the Texas-Mexico border also reported a high number of unidentified aerial phenomena.

Also coming as little surprise, communities near military bases such as Tarrant County’s Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base report a large volume of sightings, which are often later determined to be experimental aircraft or drones.

No word how many recent sightings have been linked back to the Charles Barkley blimp.
