Colorful Asian fusion eatery Hot Joy has opened in its new Broadway location, leaving behind the Southtown space it occupied for 10 years.
The new building, which also houses burger spot Pumpers and brunch hotspot NOLA, is located at 1101 Broadway, close to Elsewhere Garden Bar and the River Walk.
The ornate and voluptuous design for which the Southtown restaurant was known carries over to the new space. But unlike the old space, its high warehouse ceiling gives the decor — and clientele — more room to stretch out.
However, diners will be happy to know that they can still cloister themselves in intimate booths that are nearly rooms unto themselves, as was the case with the old locale.
While the bar was the centerpiece of Hot Joy’s old haunt, the new version features an open kitchen and bar set against one of its walls.
Hot Joy’s menu has also been revamped but still celebrates Asian cuisine and umami flavors with dishes including Chili Oil Noodles, Sizzlin’ Beef Bulgogi, Crispy Skin Pork Belly and Mapo Tofu.
Some popular menu items have carried over to the new location, including the Twice Fried Wings and Spam Fried Rice. Classic drinks such as the Zombie are still available, joined by newcomers including the Higashi, a yuzu-based martini.
Hoy Joy’s new iteration is open 11 a.m.-midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
