The Democratic National Committee is launching digital ads this Friday that blast vulnerable House Republicans, including those in Texas, for leaving on a monthlong recess instead of voting to release details about convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a one-time friend of President Donald Trump.
The five-figure campaign — which includes ads on conservative media channels — calls out MAGA loyalists for demanding the unveiling of the Epstein files during the 2024 campaign but now leaving D.C. to avoid releasing information that could put Trump in a bad light. On Tuesday, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson ended the session early after members of his own party joined Dems in asking for a vote to open the files.
San Antonio-Austin U.S. Rep. Chip Roy is among the Republican House members targeted under the Texas buy, according to DNC officials.
One of the DNC ads shows old footage of Trump and Epstein hobnobbing at a party, while another features video of U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene saying, “This is a serious issue. The highest volume of calls into my office have been about Epstein.”
Both end with the same message: “Call your representative. Demand they release the Epstein files.”
The campaign also includes Instagram and Facebook ads with similar messaging.
“Democrats are going to continue to hold the Trump administration and Texas Republicans in Congress accountable for their failure to release the Epstein files and the cover-up that we are witnessing in real time,” Senior DNC Advisor Tim Hogan said in an emailed statement. “Texans deserve full transparency, and Donald Trump and his sycophantic enablers like Rep. Chip Roy are twisting themselves in knots trying to distort the truth.”
