London-based Kero Kero Bonito may be the pop confection you didn’t know you needed in your life — and, lucky for you, they’re coming to Paper Tiger Thursday, November 7.
Consisting of singer Sarah Midori Perry (known by her stage name Sarah Bonito) and producers and multi-instrumentalists Gus Lobban and Jamie Bulled, the trio meld bubble gum ’90s pop in the Spice Girls vein with a wash of fuzzy indie rock in the vein of My Bloody Valentine.
While definitely more to the pop side, another distinguishing factor for the band is that Perry, who is half-Japanese, sings and raps in both Japanese and English.
As we endure this glut of sleepy, lo-fi bedroom pop, it’s refreshing to hear an indie act willing to embrace shiny production and sing ridiculously upbeat songs about trampolines.
Tickets ($16-$18) aren’t on sale yet, but check papertigersatx.com for updates.
