A San Antonio man pleaded guilty Wednesday to making an online threat to shoot President Donald Trump ahead of the leader’s visit to see the aftermath of the Texas Hill Country floods, federal authorities said Wednesday.
Robert Herrera, 52, is accused of making the comment in response to a July 10 Facebook post by a local news outlet about the presidential visit, U.S. Department of Justice officials said, citing court documents.
“I won’t miss,” Herrera wrote in a post that included a photo of Secret Service agents surrounding Trump following the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to a Justice Department statement. Herrera allegedly made the post using the online handle “Robert Herrer.”
After another Facebook user replied that Herrera wouldn’t get the chance to carry out the threat, Herrera replied, “I’ll just come for you,” Justice Department officials said. The response included an attached photo of an assault rifle with loaded magazines, federal authorities further allege. Herrera was arrested the same day as the online posts, and he pleaded guilty to one count of making a threat against the President of the United States, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Antonio. He faces up to five years in prison along with a fine of up to $250,000.
A federal court judge is expected to determine Herrera’s sentencing at a later date.
