San Antonio’s historic Gunter Hotel is again open to the public following a $57 million renovation led by award-winning design firm DLR Group.
The expansive renovation of the 116-year-old downtown property, now part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute portfolio, includes a revamped lobby as well as 311 redesigned rooms, more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space and four original dining and bar concepts.

Also included in the facelift are the addition of a state-of-the-art recording studio and a 900-album vinyl library, both tributes to blues legend Robert Johnson, who recorded at the hotel in 1936.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome guests to the newly transformed Gunter Hotel and to share the next chapter of this historic icon,” hotel owner and Axle Capital Managing Director Jiwon Choi said in a statement.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to blend the hotel’s rich legacy with the best in modern luxury and hospitality, so we are confident that the Gunter will offer an unforgettable stay for both locals and travelers from around the world. It’s an honor to lead such a talented team, and we look forward to serving our guests with the highest standards of excellence.”
The renovations began last year, closing the Gunter to the public for about 12 months.

The property’s additional amenities include a rooftop pool and a 24/7 state-of-the-art fitness center, according to its owners.
