San Antonio Spurs managing partner Peter J. Holt and his wife, Lauren, last month quietly purchased a prime piece of South Town real estate less than a mile from Hemisfair, Bexar County records show.
The Holts, through an affiliated entity, purchased the building currently occupied by the Battalion Italian restaurant, 604 S. Alamo St. Although terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, the Bexar County Appraisal District last appraised the property at $1.3 million.
The deal went through on Feb. 25, records indicate.
The property is about half a mile from where the Holts and other partners in Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E) plan to build a new publicly financed arena for their NBA team.
SS&E didn’t immediately respond to the Current’s request for comment about the Holts’ plans for new real estate holding.
However, the property is also located next to the former San Antonio Independent School District headquarters building, which Oxbow Development Group is converting into a mixed-use development featuring apartments, shopping and restaurants.
In November, Bexar County voters narrowly approved $800 million in public financing for the new Spurs arena.
Since then, SS&E ownership has come under fire from San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones for extravagant spending, including a $6 billion donation part-owner Michael Dell gave to the Trump White House for child investment accounts.
Indeed, Dell even doled out cash for a Super Bowl ad last month to promote the new so-called “Trump Accounts,” which are set to launch on July 5.
