San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones’ deputy chief of staff, Pat Wallace, is heading into retirement after just seven months on the job, the mayor’s office confirmed Wednesday.

Wallace is now the sixth person to resign from work in Jones’ office in less than a year. Her last day will be May 1.

Before going to work for the mayor, Wallace was the longtime chief of staff of former District 8 Councilman Manny Pelaez. She has the most City Hall experience of anyone on Jones’ staff by far.

“Her willingness to mentor young staffers was invaluable, and she played a critical role in ensuring appointments to boards and commissions reflected the diversity and depth of talent and lived experiences in our city,” Jones said in a statement. “I wish her the very best in her well-earned retirement.”

Word of Wallace’s retirement came a day after she posted on LinkedIn about positive work environments and teamwork.

“When people feel valued, supported and connected, amazing things happen,” Wallace wrote. “Invest in experience, nurture relationships and build teams that thrive.”

Wallace’s post included three photos of other Jones staffers, but the mayor didn’t appear in any of the images.

Other Jones staffers who have departed since she took office last June include former chief of staff Jordan Abelson, special assistant Anna San Miguel and event services director Rory Vance. Former communications directors Gary Cooper and Carlos de Leon also both left within a week of being hired.
