In a social media post last week, the Texas Democrat Party teased the addition of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as another keynote speaker at its June convention.
“We have *yuge* news to share in the next few days,” the state party’s official Threads account posted, borrowing a Bernie-ism for the caption of an image featuring Sanders’ distinctive silhouette.
Sanders joins an already-announced roster of speakers that includes U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, who was added in March. Others include Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico, Texas gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa and New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
Taken together, the keynote speakers represent a wide spectrum of the party, from centrists such as Booker to Sanders’ insurgent progressive wing.
The convention will also feature musical performances by local bands as well as South Texas congressional candidate and Tejano musician Bobby Pulido.
The 2026 State Convention will take place in Corpus Christi’s Hilliard Center June 25-27. Tickets are still available, with proceeds serving as a fundraiser for the party.
“We are mobilizing for the defining struggle of our generation,” the state party proclaims on its website.
Texas Democrats are gearing up to capitalize on building anti-Trump sentiment as the November midterms approach. According to the TDP website, it is the country’s largest state Democratic convention.
“Thousands of Democrats from every corner of the state are coming together in one place,” the site reads. “We organize, energize, and prepare for victory in November.”
