With 75 recording credits and a Grammy nomination to his name, prolific polka artist and accordion maestro Alex Meixner blends music and storytelling to exalt his craft.

San Antonio’s Musical Bridges Around the World will present a show by Meixner — a beloved staple at New Braunfels’ annual Wurstfest celebration — at Collins Garden Library this Wednesday meant to offer a musical overview of German music and culture.

For people in San Antonio and the Hill Country, those sounds still resonate. Old-school Texans are extremely proud of their German heritage, be they early Protestant exiles or post-Reich influxes. In San Antonio and the Hill Country alike, these roots are still tangible in our architecture, dialects and cuisine, which is a blend of German, Canary Islander and Mestizo cultures.

The San Antonio Public Library, in partnership with MBAW, will bring it together through this engaging and tuneful examination.

Free, 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, Collins Garden Library, 200 N. Park Drive, (210) 207-9120, musicalbridges.org.
