State troopers this week arrested San Antonio man Jason Shawn Briggs on allegations that he directed terroristic threats at Texas Republican lawmakers, as first reported by conservative political blog Current Revolt.

Texas DPS took Briggs into custody Tuesday in Guadalupe County on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear stemming from a felony theft charge. At booking, though, DPS realized that Briggs was also wanted in Collin County for making a terroristic threat causing public fear or serious bodily injury or death, DPS said in a statement.

Briggs’ alleged threats, made on social media platform X, were directed at Texas Republican State Reps. Jeff Leach and Lacey Hull, according to authorities.

A post from Briggs’ X account said “chances are very high that [Leach will] die the same day as Trump.” A tweet from the account also accused the North Texas Republican of facilitating the Great Replacement — a racist conspiracy theory popular on the far right, which posits that lawmakers are intentionally replacing white Americans with immigrants.

Briggs accused Hull of the same.

“Lacy wants to destroy America by flooding with legal aliens from black and brown countries to destroy white people in America,” a post on Briggs’ account said of the Houston Republican. “She wants to destroy your family. If you’re white it’s time we start working to destroy her family.”

Briggs’ arrest comes days after Texas Railroad Commission candidate Bo French, a Republican, promoted the Great Replacement conspiracy after posting a photo of Southeast Asian students attending the University of Texas football game against Ohio State last weekend.
