Alfredo “Freddy” Lopez Jr.
is based right here in San Antonio. Lopez is a professional illustrator who is currently working on design in games, comics and cards. He is known to have a gritty style and also known for creating mash ups with multiple pop culture elements and ideas. Alejandro Augustine Padilla uses his drawings as a way to overcome anxiety. His works range from contemporary to intellectually inspired and can be found in private collections throughout San Antonio.
Angela Fox says in her biography that her work comes from inspirations from community. In her art you can find drawings of buildings and tight groups of people that she says symbolize unity and security. Fox’s work can be found in exhibits in San Antonio all the way to Chicago.
Arlene Mejorado is part of a group called Mujeres en Medio that focuses on art such as videos, writing and photography in the area.
Saytown Review Zine is a free literary arts magazine distributed in San Antonio that specializes in writing, art and comics. Carlos Aguilar is a graduate of Texas State University who has an interest in working on comics and zines. He works on things such as paintings and collages as well as comics and sells them in online stores such as Etsy.
Roberto Botello of Birdnerd Comix is a fan of simple comics but he likes to let stories do the painting for him. In fact, he has been known to cut out pages of journals and paste them together to create a work of art.
Destiny Mata of Destiny Mata Foto has taken a
unique perspective of the world as a street photographer. The photos of Destiny Mata Foto, both staged and candid, can be found from New York City down to San Antonio.
Gatosaurio, a company who originated in Mexico but is now based in Texas, publishes comics and other illustrations by Inés Estrada. Estrada is a self-taught cartoonist from Mexico City, however he now lives in San Antonio and ships and publishes his designs all around the world.
Eric Benton designer at Gut Rot, is originally from upstate New
York but now lives in Austin, Texas, where he is drawing for Gut Rot and also
screen-printing his designs. In Benton’s words his preferred drawing style is
anything and everything “everything
slime and metal”
King William Design is a company based in San Antonio that helps
costumers solve a variety of design related problems including product design,
graphic design and photo-realistic illustrations.
Louie Chavez is the designer of the Nuke Beach figure series. Chavez’s nickname is “slime time” which makes since when you see the design of his colorful figures which drew their inspiration from popular “gross-out toys” from the 90’s. Noel Kalmus, a Texas native, sells her sketches and comics on Etsy from Austin, where she works as a graphic designer.
Zane Thomas is a screen printer for Black Moon Press who lives in San Antonio. Black Moon Press is a local company that specializes in poster designs and screen print.
