As the San Antonio Philharmonic continues the struggle for its very existence, the orchestra’s creative decisions continue to up the ante in terms of guest performers and conductors, drawing in luminaries that hold the capacity to grow the potential audience for live classical music.
For The Classics VIII concert, the San Antonio Philharmonic will present bassoonist and conductor Anthony Parnther, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as the “quintessential LA musician of our day.” He will conduct works by an intriguing trio of composers: Weber, Purrington and Brahms.
Known for his versatility and as a collaborator with anyone from violinist Joshua Bell to Wu-Tang Clan, Parnther is also one of today’s foremost film conductors. He’s led projects including the Oscar-winning score for Oppenheimer, the Emmy-winning The Mandalorian, Avatar: The Way of Water and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, among others.
