Fans of bike racing and extreme sports in general will, for the third year in a row, have the opportunity to catch a unique spectacle of a race right in downtown San Antonio – at the Alamo no less.
Red Bull Last Stand attendees will witness qualifying and final rounds of competition in what is known as a crit race, “a type of cycling that combines a short track, 40 mile-per-hour speeds, and hairpin turns,” with categories for men and women riding fixed and geared bikes. All this amid a festival-like atmosphere (you know how Red Bull gets down) in a decidedly unconventional setting should make for a heck of a day.
For those who follow this sport, it’s worth noting that participants will include such elite riders as onetime national dirt track champion Jake Magee, former baseballer James Grady, teacher-turned-pro Eleanore Saraiva and emerging Italian fashion designer Paola Penzeri.
Free, Sat Oct. 13, qualifiers at 1pm, main event from 5-9:15pm, Alamo Plaza, 300 Alamo Plaza, laststand.splashthat.com.
