San Antonio’s annual kite and dog-themed event Fest of Tails is back for its 17th year this spring.

Held in McAllister Park near the dog park and pump track, the free, family-friendly festival features a variety of activities including kite-flying, a pet parade and costume contest, tree and plant giveaways, fitness activities and more.

Costume contest registration is now open for those who wish to enter their canine pals into competition in the categories of Best Dressed Dog and Most Resembles Owner. Those who wish to eschew the contest but still bring their pups to parade in the park need not register.

Free, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, McAllister Park, 13102 Jones Maltsberger Road, (210) 212-8423, saparksfoundation.org.
