Spurs fans are celebrating online after Monday’s revelation that team doctors have cleared superstar Victor Wembanyama to return ahead of the start of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Wemby was ruled out shortly after the NBA All-Star game last season when team doctors diagnosed the 7-foot-3 rising superstar with a deep vein thrombosis, also known as a blood clot.

Maxime Aubin — a French sports writer based in San Antonio — confirmed in a Monday tweet that Wemby is ready to hit the court.

“I’m officially cleared to return,” Wemby told French sports magazine L’Equipe. “It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs’ medical staff just a few hours ago (last Friday). Phew, I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again.”

Wemby’s return is sure to put a smile on the face of anxious Spurs fans, who are eager for the Silver and Black’s young, talented roster to return to the NBA Playoffs — a feat the team hasn’t accomplished since 2019.

With the team now equipped with a roster that includes No. 2 draft pick Dylan Harper, 2025 NBA Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox, who only played 17 games with the Spurs last season before a season-ending pinky finger injury, there’s a lot for San Antonio sports mavens to be hopeful for this season.

“As a Spurs fan, I couldn’t be more excited,” user @spursbsktball21 tweeted about Wemby’s clearance to play.
