No. 2 draft pick Dylan Harper and the San Antonio Spurs will take on No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday, Oct. 22, for both teams’ season-opening game, NBA officials said Tuesday.
The historic matchup will mark only the second time since 1966 that the top two picks in the same draft will face each other in their first career regular-season games. It’s also the third consecutive season the Spurs will open their season with an away game in Dallas.
Tipoff is at 8:30 p.m., and ESPN will carry the game.
Although the NBA hasn’t released the Spurs’ full regular-season schedule, officials also confirmed team will play on Christmas Day for a second consecutive year.
In that matchup, Victor Wembanyama and the rest of the Silver and Black will take on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the 2025 NBA Champion Oklahoma City Thunder in OKC. That nationally televised game will get underway at 1:30 p.m. on ABC.
