The San Antonio Zoo on Friday launched Conserfari Tours — an immersive African safari-style experience where visitors can get up close and personal with African mammals from the comfort of a Toyota pickup truck.
The tours mimic those found at attractions such as Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. In the zoo’s case, visitors will see wildlife and feed giraffes, zebras and other animals found at its largest exhibit, the Naylor Savanna.
“Our goal is to inspire visitors to connect with nature in a meaningful way, and Conserfari Tours is the perfect opportunity to do just that,” San Antonio Zoo President and CEO Tim Morrow said in an emailed statement.
After this weekend, the tours will run Mondays through Thursdays starting at 10 a.m. The tour, which can be booked on the zoo’s website, costs $39.99 per person and isn’t included with standard zoo admission.
Children must be at least 5 years of age to participate, and an adult must accompany teens under 14.
