The San Antonio Zoo is celebrating World Giraffe Day this Saturday with live music, educational activities and games to raise awareness and garner support for the wildlife park’s spotted, long-necked residents.

Activities will get underway with a performance by DJ Daniel at the Zoo’s Great Lawn from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. An educational chat and presentation about giraffes will take place at 2 p.m., followed by games with the San Antonio Spurs’ Hype Squad.

All the fun and activities are included with standard admission to the San Antonio Zoo and are free for membership holders.

Global Giraffe Day is held every June 21 to coincide with the Summer Solstice and raise awareness and raise awareness of the “silent extinction” of the African hoofed herbivores, according to the nonprofit Giraffe Conservation Foundation. Indeed, only 7,000 Northern Giraffes remain in the wild, the organization estimates.
