India — the planet’s most populous nation and one of its most ethnically diverse — has put its stamp on Texas as more and more of the country’s diaspora has settled here. That’s fostered vibrant, thriving South Asian cultures in Lone Star State metros, including San Antonio.
While people find many ways to celebrate this increasingly multi-generational phenomenon, the Festival of India — organized by the India Association of San Antonio — is always a grand time. This year’s iteration will take place at Hemisfair’s Civic Park, unfurling the the subcontinent’s rich tapestry of cultures for anyone to experience.
Highlights this year include a parade featuring dances and costumes from the 28 states and eight union territories of India, a bazaar showcasing arts and crafts, a Chaat Gulli of snacks and treats and DJs playing fun, earworm-inducing Bollywood music.
Free, 3-10 p.m. Saturday, April 19, Hemisfair Plaza Civic Park, 210 S. Alamo St., (210) 709-4750, hemisfair.org.
