San Antonio Spurs super-fan Sovia Lauriano, better known as “The Spurs Lady,” got her dying wish this week.

Lauriano, who was known around town for her eccentric Spurs-themed outfits and unwavering support for the Silver and Black, died at 71 last month after suffering a major heart attack.

During a 2022 interview with the Express-News, Lauriano said that when she died she wanted her body to be ferried in the back of her Spurs-autographed white pickup with silver and black flags flying overhead.

“When I die, that’s my wish,” she told the daily. “They’ll rally me onto my next destination. I want to go out as I live.”

And that’s exactly how Lauriano went out on Wednesday, according to media reports and social media posts.

According to KSAT, Lauriano was laid to rest in a custom Spurs-themed casket created by San Antonio-based artist JC Art. Following her funeral service Wednesday, her casket was placed in the bed of her truck with silver and black flags fluttering overhead.

JC Art created the casket free of charge, according to the TV station.

“One last ride,” Mark Burnett, another Spurs superfan and friend of Lauriano, wrote on social media platform X. “Rest in peace my friend.”

Lauriano’s death in January led to an outpouring of support from the local community, including Mayor Ron Nirenberg, District 5 Councilwoman Teri Castilo, and the San Antonio Spurs.

“She brought joy to everyone she met and will be deeply missed by the entire Spurs Family,” the Spurs tweeted. “May she rest in peace.”
