Officials with the minor-league San Antonio Missions baseball team revealed during a Thursday press conference at Nelson W. Wolff Stadium that, on select dates, the club will play under the name the San Antonio Breakfast Tacos.
The Breakfast Tacos moniker will serve as an alternate identity during select games, and the Missions will continue to use its other alter ego used during play on Thursdays, the Flying Chanclas, which the franchise introduced in 2018.
“We wanted something fresh that celebrates the true colors and blended the culture of San Antonio, and what says ‘San Antonio’ better than the food we love?” Missions General Manager Mickey Holt told reporters.
The uniforms feature images of an anthropomorphized bean-and-cheese breakfast taco.
The base color is cast-iron black with brown sleeves. Meanwhile, the on-field caps are refried-bean brown with tortilla-tan elements. Other colors incorporated into the design include platinum foil and melted-cheese gold.
“It’s a look that says ‘Play ball!’ and possibly ‘Did anyone bring the salsa?'” Holt said.
The club will debut the new Breakfast Taco uniforms during the April 16, 17 and 18 home games.
San Antonio Breakfast Tacos merchandise is now available for purchase on the San Antonio Missions website.
